Were you always planning to be an accountant and why?
Nope, I wanted to go into Tourism or become a chef. I would of been broke very quickly. I am naturally good with numbers and research so I did a quick Bookkeeping course and that started my career 27 years ago.
When meeting with clients do they mostly come to your own premises or do you mostly go their theirs?
I mostly go to my clients

Email, Phone, Face to Face, WhatsApp

No
What do you love most about accounting?
I love teaching others about it,one on one, finding the errors and reconciling.
I am now a Technical Financial Accountant so i do various accounting tasks.
Would you recommend accounting as a career for school-leavers, and why?
Yes, everyone needs a bookkeeper or an accountant, you can start from the bottom as a clerk and grow to be an Accountant. There will always be work.
What qualities should South African business people be looking for in their accountant?
Honesty, Loyalty accuracy and support.
What is the biggest challenge facing accountants today?
SARS and all the red tape
What aspects of accounting do you focus on most?
I don't focus on anything specific, I do everything from processing to Financial Statements to Tax Returns

Owner Managed, small amount of staff 1-5

Half an hour away

Money Management - Cashflow

Sage Pastel

Sage Payroll, Microsoft excel, SARS efiling & Easyfile, draftworx
Do you think the coming wave of automation in the next few years will steal some accounting jobs and why/why not?
No, they are still going to need someone to help them use the products and reconcile the work - Not everyone thinks like an accountant.

Reading, camping, movies, swimming
